So, with this article, I'm going to be looking at three more games which I think deserve the tabletop treatment and why. The first of these is a game which I am obsessed with at the moment called No Man's Sky (Reddit user mitchollow's work pictured above).
No Man's Sky seems like a game ripe for the plucking when it comes to the tabletop. There are lots of games out there all about exploration, choice and consequence and secrets and No Man's Sky fits the bill for that perfectly.
Games that currently exist where inspiration can be drawn from include the likes of Above & Below/Near & Far with their use of a storybook to describe the interactions that players have with the NPCs in the world. You've also got much more narrative experiences like Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective and Legacy Of Dragonholt where the focus is more on unravelling puzzles and a dose of roleplaying.
If you wanted to look to other gameplay mechanics more appropriate to board games you've got the explorative nature of games like Pandemic Legacy and Seafall where you add stickers to a large board as you uncover different parts of the world. Now, switch that around for galaxies, planets and such and you've suddenly got a fascinating Sci-Fi prospect before you.
I love the idea of you as a group (or in solo play) designing your kit, picking your equipment and ship before heading out into the beyond, moving from planet to planet and going through Choose Your Own Adventure-style scenarios, seeing worlds unfold before you. You'd have to focus things towards an end goal, perhaps reaching a certain number of the Atlas Artefacts perhaps but apart from that, you could grant players a lot of freedom as you randomly assign different encounters based on a matrix of where they are and what they have.
I won't pretend that it wouldn't be a massive undertaking (much like with the video game) but there is a lot of scope to follow the exploration element of the games and deliver some good choice and consequence gameplay in doing so. Imagine coming to a new system and having to work out if you can avoid the pirates or fly away from them, or if you insult that poor merchant you met when haggling for fuel for your ship!

Destiny Awaits
I've talked about a big board game but what about a roleplaying game? Well, for that I would suggest looking to the world of Destiny by Bungie.The blocks are lain here for the game to already be a superb roleplaying game. You have three key classes with Warlocks, Titans and Hunters. There you have your caster, tank and damage options but then within them loads of ways to unlock and tie in talents to make Guardians feel unique.
Then you have the massive playground that the game is set in. Ruined Earth has a vast amount of depth for adventure as you search for old technology and secrets plus battle against a varied array of enemies like the Fallen, Cabal, Vex and Hive. Each of those enemy types already features a range of different designs which could be used to create interesting and dynamic encounters.
Add to that the idea that you're a fireteam and you've already got a way to keep the players together. You could work in bonuses for them fighting together and combining abilities as well as lots of interesting uses of their powers and those big super abilities which are massive game-changers. You could perhaps tie things into their health or the amount of damage they've dealt perhaps?
There is already a group working on a game which you can see here. The Destiny Tabletop RPG is going through its playtest stages right now and from the looks of it, the community has been doing great stuff with it. I can't wait to give it a go myself.
If you're looking for a game which could be used to emulate this right now you have the sandbox-style systems like Savage Worlds and Genesys which might give you what you need to get going.

Last but not least is a game which I would be very interested to see done in board game form, perhaps with miniatures. Overwatch, somehow, needs to come to the tabletop!Alas, we currently only have the option of Overwatch Monopoly to help us in this regard but I think that if you took a similar idea to Atomic Mass' Marvel: Crisis Protocol you could get a pretty cool miniatures game from this Blizzard game.
Imagine if you had a full roster of character to pick from, fully realised in 32mm plastic/resin and then you did a draft pick for your team. You could then fight it out on the tabletop for similar objectives from the video game focusing on the capture of specific points and perhaps even other variants like Deathmatch and Capture The Flag.
Each character could feel nice and unique with a set of different abilities tied to a set of cards. Once you'd used them you'd have to rotate them or flip them in some way in order to get them back. Some would take longer than others of course. Then, you tie their Ultimate into the different rounds of the game plus specific triggers for each character (blocking damage, taking damage, killing opponents). You could create a really awesome asymmetrical play experience where there was a real focus on picking a team that worked together for a specific scenario.
In this way, you'd have both a casual game which anyone could play and one that might even breed a bit of a competitive scene at the same time!
If you're looking at it from a monetary perspecitve there's also plenty of room for expansion with different 'skins' for the characters becoming available in miniature form, alternative poses and of course new heroes as and when they come along. You could even do terrain and mats which mirror the design of the maps from the actual video game!
I reckon people would lap this up, both from tabletop gamer and video game backgrounds. If nothing else people would enjoy the painting experience!
